It is 4 years since our Community Building leaders started to consider what we could do provide hope for our village youngsters to combat growing concern about the impact of climate change and the need to develop sustainable buildings and a sustainable way of life.

This summer, the building partners have taken more actions to make the project happen and although some things appear to be negative, as everyone knows, as well as providing hope our project is a learning and education process – so as one door closes another one opens.

We have to find new ways of doing what we want to do.

Examples of making things happen is that the school have invested in more energy efficient doors and windows, similarly the Community Association (CA) have also installed replacement fire doors and a raft of movement sensors and new low energy lighting, whilst St Wilfrid’s has taken control of its heating by activating wifi enabled controllers.  All these measures will reduce the energy we consume, reduce how much we spend and reduce carbon emissions.

Meanwhile the CA are getting to grips with assessing and managing the new Air Source Heat Pumps and becoming an all-electric building.

The system has performed well so far and we are trying to measure its performance on as near a like for like basis as possible. To do that we have bought 3 wifi smart life thermometers to measure and record actual room temperatures on an hour- by-hour basis – thus providing more data than we  had before. The initial outputs are very illuminating. We’ll share this data as it becomes more meaningful.

This is all very good but how do these actions fit into the big picture which can sometimes be very confusing? Read more elsewhere in the News.
