Why does the CA need a new website and what will be different? When will it be launched and why do we need a new one? Those are quite reasonable questions for anyone to ask.
Our target is to launch it in the early New Year. We need to increase its capacity, capability and user friendliness.
It will keep lots of the existing features and information but will have more scope to be inter-reactive, bringing it up to date. For example, people wanting to order or reserve tickets for events like the Beerfest or Fireworks display will be able to do so via our new website. Perhaps the Wise Owl Quiz or VE Day will be our first bookable events.
That’s down to how well we get on with its development, and other major features we want to add. We plan to have more approved webmasters i.e. people who the CA will allow to add content to the site. The new webmasters will have access to add and change information.
A further new feature of the website will be to create a CA and Community Centre photo gallery.
So if you have pictures from past events and village celebrations - for example the Millennium Celebration, the Scarecrow Events, the Queen’s Diamond and Platinum Jubilees – we would be delighted to receive them.
Another element we want to create is an expanded Sustainability Section to share more information about what we’ve learnt over the past 5 years. The booklet we are currently producing and distributing would have to be about 4 times bigger if we wanted to include all the information available.
Your CA has a rich history. It is now approaching 60 years since residents decided they wanted a Community Centre. There are not many residents who remember why the decision to create a Community Centre was made or how it happened. The new website will have a ‘potted history’ of how it came into being. There have been several occasions when ‘the wheels almost came off the cart’. An exciting tale of successes, failures and long periods when nothing happened at all, leading to what we have today.
We are fortunate that we have almost a full set of minutes, and so in the future we will be able to share them.
