Brilliant News …the CA has been ‘better than’ Carbon Neutral for the past 4 months of May, June, July and August! During those months we have generated over 600kWh of electricity more than we have consumed as well as not burning any gas. What’s more, it hasn’t been the brightest of years either.

Since we replaced our gas boiler by installing an Air Source Heat Pump to a year ago in July2023 we no longer emit any Co2 at the Community Centre. It’s also worth noting that the electricity we use to make hot water for heating and general use is three times less than the amount of gas we would have used to do the same job. So that’s only 1/3rd of the potential Co2 we would have previously emitted when we used gas.

Speaking of the Sun, by the time this article is being read in the News, we hope that the annual fund- raising Beer Fest has been blest by a Sunny Weekend. Even if its not, the BF team have been busy planning for any weather eventuality so we hope everyone who supported it by attending had a great time. It is worth remembering that any money raised while having a good time, underpins the Community Centre facilities along the CA and School (via the PTA) activities and developments.

Several other events are either underway or in the planning process.

As schools have now already started another school year– before you know it half term will be upon us and that means Fireworks!

Anyone who has recently gone looking to buy them knows they cost a small fortune… and then considers the risks of lighting them.

Well, the solution is here … Go to Hillam Sports Fields on Saturday 9th November, relax and enjoy yourselves…. even better would be to get yourself into the firework mood by helping set it up, help at the event or help clear up afterwards. It’s a great night out and after all its for everyone in the Village and it’s put on for the Village by Villagers.

Next Year two events are already in the planning stage.

Fans of Pub Quizzes just love the Community Association’s Annual Wise Owl Quiz which is a non- stop (except for Drinks, Food, Ooohs and Ahhs), something for everyone, multi – round General Knowledge Quiz.

Thanks to Betty Wright’s incredible question setting team, it will be back on Saturday 9th February 2025.

It could be you who might go home with the very prestigious Wise Owl Trophy or reluctantly with the Real Wooden Spoon! Look out for information about Ticket availability.

If you haven’t attended – try it – you’ll love it.

And finally – You may fondly remember some fantastic village celebration doo’s over the years - Perhaps the Day when the Olympic Torch came to Monk Fryston or the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012 or The Tour of Yorkshire Cycle Race pass through in 2016 and more recently the Kings Coronation last year. Well next year another major national milestone is going to be celebrated - The 80th Anniversary of VE Day.  Save the Date – Now!
