In April the CA learned that one of its past fund-raising partners, the Osgoldcross Rotary Club who we worked with for 10 years to help stage the Milford Bonfire they led had ceased to operate. Those that remember and attended will no doubt recall that the bonfire and firework display were epic. Over the years, the CA ‘earned’ a lot of money from this massive fund raiser, as did Monk Fryston school, but, at the same time both organisations contributed a lot of manpower and equipment. Most of the money which the CA raised was spent on the extensions to the Community Centre in 2011, 13 and 14 and continued to help pay off our expansion debts until the Bonfire’s demise in 2017.
It came ‘out of the blue’ when we were told but as the saying goes ‘every cloud (the Rotary’s charity work will be missed) has a silver lining’ as we were offered and gladly accepted the donation of the clubs’ grill and a several cash boxes (with keys). This is quite an upgrade from the plastic containers we use for cash at events.
Thanks to the goodwill of the A11team we now have the grill and we intend to use the grill at the SeptemberFest on Saturday 14th September.
