Robin Parkin, the CA Chair, the CA Trustees, the General Purposes Committee and members would like to take this opportunity to wish all the residents of Hillam and Monk Fryston a Very Merry Christmas (if it’s not too late when you receive your copy of the News) and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous 2025.
We would also like to thank everyone who has helped to make the CA tick over during the last twelve months – from managing the drop off recycling bins, putting fairy lights on Geoff Hall’s Memorial Oak Tree in the playground and maintaining the playground equipment; to helping stage one of our community events in some way - by putting up marquees, flipping burgers, pulling pints, serving food, entertaining us in some way – music master or quiz master… every little helps! A very big THANK YOU to everyone, and a special thank you to anyone we haven’t mentioned. All your help is greatly appreciated.
During 2024, we hope you have been able to use the Community Centre facilities, join us at one of the events we have staged with our partners, and if not, at least enjoyed reading about what we have been doing to try and make our villages ‘a great place to live – and not just sleep in’.
Elsewhere in the News we will report on this year’s Beer Fest, otherwise known under its new name of ‘Septemberfest’, reflecting that it is not just about offering a fantastic range of beers but also offering a selection of cocktails, wines and ciders for everyone including alcohol free options. Also, read about the role the CA and Community Centre are playing in the Village Sustainability Project.
At the time of writing, the CA and the Football and Cricket Clubs have just staged the village Fireworks event, with a fantastic display – on our doorstep. Very few villages do this nowadays and we hope everyone who attended had a brilliant night.
By way of a reminder the renowned Wise Owl Quiz is returning on February 8th and the VE Day celebrations are something to look forward to on May 4th … get the dates in your diaries now – and buy the tickets from the Village Stores or on line.
A couple of other CA initiatives which we are hoping will happen in 2025.
- The launch of a more extensive Community Centre website in early January. CA committee members are already preparing the website. The address will stay the same mfhcc.com Monk Fryston and Hillam Community Association - Home
- The Village Playground Development. The CA has earmarked monies raised from the Septemberfest and elsewhere to go towards this redevelopment and is now looking for a grant to enable it to go ahead. …. So maybe by next spring we can report more to Hillam News.
Every year things are happening, but it’s all down to people making them happen – perhaps 2025 could be the year you help make it happen too in some way?
Best wishes again to all readers of Hillam News, residents of our Community and users of our Community Centre and its facilities. A Happy New Year to you!
